The selected crops for the implementation of the model of physical chemical variables that will feed the proposed automated inference system are based on existing wine production units. They are characterized by high-quality wine products, thanks to the properties of the landscape and climatic conditions that distinguish the same characteristics between the areas of study. Consequently, the success of the research project is ensured through the determination of specific physical parameters during the continuous recording of the variables under study.
The process of selecting the study areas supports the developing semantic system proposed in the EVINOS project in order to improve the performance of existing crops, the rational utilization of their wine potential and the contribution of producers to the qualitative upgrading of the grape production through specific proposals and corrective actions. This will result from an automatic study of the specific characteristics of selected areas and the way in which the corresponding vine meets the territorial and climatic conditions.
Therefore, the study areas are a factor in ensuring the uninterrupted operation of the system, as well as the production of consistent measurements. In addition, the selected crops are accompanied by wine production processes with high quality criteria, which ensure the extraction of safe conclusions.
During the process of search and selection of grapes from the specific vineyards located in the geographical territory of the Ionian Islands, the research work is guided in terms of performance, quality, quantity, variety and type of vineyards and the resulting wine products.
